World War I Commemoration

On May 3, 1915, the poem In Flanders Fields was penned by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.  The red poppy fields from the poem became symbolic of World War I.

On May 3, 2018, we are hosting In Remembrance of the Red Poppy: A World War I Commemorative Event.  This program will be held at the New Castle Armory beginning at 7 p.m. (doors to open at 6:30 p.m.).  Light refreshments will be served by the Sarah Winston Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  This is an educational program highlighting some of Henry County’s World War I heroes.  There is no charge, and all Henry County residents are welcome to attend.
