HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER FORECAST EVENT NOW SET SATURDAY, DEC. 20 INSTEAD OF THIS SUNDAY With the snow and bitter cold temperatures in the forecast for this weekend, The Henry County Historical Society Board of Directors have decided to postpone Sunday’s holiday open house and reschedule it for Saturday, Dec. 20. The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. While the Madrigal Singers and Lydia Ferguson won’t be able to perform as planned on that date, a Christmas atmosphere will greet visitors in a setting Gen. On Dec. 10, 1986, officials with the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame visited New Castle, including the “world’s largest and finest high school gymnasium,” and heard about the rich heritage of the sport here. New Castle was competing with Indianapolis, Franklin, Martinsville, Anderson, Logansport and Marion to become the Hall of Fame’s new home.The picture attached here, courtesy The Indianapolis Star, shows the fieldhouse full of fans during a tournament game. It is not the day officials from the Hall of Fame came here. However, there was also a good crowd that night. The Chamber of Commerce gave away tickets that night to boost the crowd in hopes of making a good impression on the Hall of Fame committee members.The impression must have been a good one.
