Sarah Winston Henry Chapter of DAR 90th Anniversary!

My sincere apologies for being absent last week.  I am a member of the Sarah Winston Henry Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), and this year we are celebrating our 90th Anniversary!  Our chapter was formed on September 7, 1927, and we held a celebration on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  Several members and guests attended, as well as four members of the Indiana DAR Board of Management (Mrs. Lois Huntington, State Regent; Mrs. Charlotte Blair, State Vice Regent; Mrs. Elaine Sholty, State Corresponding Secretary; and Mrs. Kitty Ryerson, Central District Director).  We thank all those who spent the afternoon with us celebrating our 90th birthday and learning more about the history of our chapter.

NSDAR is much more than a lineage society!  To join, you must be a female over 18 years of age and prove your bloodline lineal descent from a proven Revolutionary War Patriot.  NSDAR is first and foremost a service organization!  Once you become a member, the possibilities of what you can do for NSDAR are endless!  At last count, there are at least 40 committees you can join or you can participate at the local level.  There is something for everyone in NSDAR.  If you are interested in NSDAR or have questions, join us Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Henry County Community Foundation for a Lineage Workshop!  We will be meeting in the board room on the lower level (elevator available).  Check-in is from 9-9:30 a.m., then we’ll have an hour for questions/review of the application process, and then 1-1/2 hours of time to work on your application.  We’ll end for the day at noon.  We will have light refreshments and handouts.  You can join us if you’re interested in another lineage society as most have approximately the same requirements, even men who might be interested in the Sons of the American Revolution or any of the numerous Civil War or War of 1812 societies.  The best part about this workshop?  TOTALLY FREE!  We’ll have wifi access so you may bring your laptop, any paperwork you have, your questions, and, most importantly, yourself!  Contact me at [email protected] for questions or to be put on the guest list.  Hope to see you Saturday!
