Music Trivia Day 4!

The man in the picture from yesterday was none other than Urban Horney!

Mr. Horney was born in 1900 to the Reverend Jacob M. and Emma Horney.  He learned to play the harp and then became proficient at playing all stringed instruments.  He specialized in the guitar.

In 1919, he bought an 1833 hand-crafted C.F. Martin guitar.  This was his personal guitar until his death in 1969.  He carried this guitar with him when playing in traveling bands and orchestras in locales such as New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis.

In the 1930s, he returned to live with his parents in New Castle as he was going blind due to a brain tumor.  Following a successful surgery, he was forbidden by his physician to return to his former job.  In the early 1940s, he opened a small music store.  He also married Miss Hallie Gottman of Evansville.  Mr. Horney was a licensed pilot and served as a member of the New Castle Aviation Commission for several years.

Mr. Horney died at the age of 69 on December 31, 1969.
